The Opportunity
After “graduating” from the Burning Man Project, I was quickly approached by one of the artists I supported during my years of leading the Art Department, Laura Kimpton. Laura had recently been approached by the SLS Hotel in Miami’s South Beach to “take over” the hotel’s decor during Art Basel. I stepped in as the Executive Director of her LLC, She’s Got Wings. What began as an art activation for Art Basel grew to several projects, including art shows in Aspen, Manhattan and Hudson Valley, press in international publications, and art sales for both private collectors to multinational conglomerates.
My Impact
I spearheaded the business side of Laura’s projects, including the sale of a 10 foot aluminum powdered coated red LOVE to the Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas, placement of the Centaur as the inaugural art installation for the Dogpatch Arts Plaza in San Francisco, and the inclusion of XO as part of the Smithsonian’s Art of Burning Man show in Washington, DC. I coordinated and expanded the organization’s public relations efforts with world renown agency Susan Grant Lewin, gaining interviews and articles in the Miami Times, NY Times, Time Out and more. I negotiated contracts with the City of Palm Beach, Florida and the City of San Jose/San Jose Airport, Life is Beautiful Festival, the Burning Man Project, the Smithsonian, and more, ensuring the best terms and largest fees possible.
